A Church of England Academy

Student testimonials

Here's what some of our students think of our Sixth Form.

Interview with Miriam Boasiako, Year 13

Which school were you at before Sixth Form?

I attended Maiden Erlegh School in Reading. The school had just opened at the time, so I was part of the first cohort.

Which subjects are you studying?

I am currently studying Psychology, Sociology and English Language.

Why did you choose to come to The Piggott School?

I knew that it performed well academically, and I wanted to give myself the chance to experience that too. It was also one of the few schools that offered all the subjects I wanted to take.

What has been the best thing about studying your A-Levels at The Piggott School?

Teachers are very specialised in their subjects and very passionate about them which makes discussions interesting and consequently, making learning more exciting. I've made really good friends here as well.

How would you describe life in the Sixth Form?

It feels nice to be at the top of the school because of the increased independence which allows you to start learning how to manage your time before stepping out into the working world. Teachers are regularly available to help you with any work that you don't understand and seeing students working all around you is motivating. There's a good balance between work and play which is always important too.

What do you want to do when you leave The Piggott?

I want to study Psychology at university and then a masters in Clinical Psychology whilst gaining some work experience. After that, I hope to come back to do a PhD in Clinical Psychology and become a registered Clinical Psychologist, helping people overcome their mental health issues.

Interview with Elif Su Yilmaz, Year 13

Which school were you at before Sixth Form?

I was studying in South Africa.

Which subjects are you studying?

I am currently studying; Economics; Sociology; BTEC Travel & Tourism.

Why did you choose to come to The Piggott School?

I felt a sense of welcoming when I first had the interview. I was offered a lot of help from the teachers about my situation (as I had just arrived from South Africa) and they were very helpful in guiding me and welcoming into their sixth form from day one. For this reason, I decided to choose The Piggott School because of its inclusion and great effort to make students feel welcome which really creates a sense of diversity.

What has been the best thing about studying your A-Levels at The Piggott School?

The environment provided in the sixth form block allows students to research, study quietly and also socialize. This enables me to keep myself motivated and utilise all the facilities that are offered as this is very helpful when it comes to completing my A level work. Teachers have been a great guide in all places and teachers are willing to do a one-on-one session to help or guide me with my work to enhance my understanding. I found this especially helpful as I was very new to the UK education system, but they did not fall back from helping me as they would to every other student.

How would you describe life in the Sixth Form?

I would describe it as a time of discipline and growth, but also fun. Being able to express yourself for who you are and enjoying great times with friends is the most important aspect of life at sixth form alongside commitment to studies. Exchanging emotions with peers really helps when everyone is in the same situation and there is a mutual understanding which is beneficial to well-being around sixth form.
