  • Positive Behaviour for Learning

    Published 04/06/24

In May 2023, we were visited by Ofsted and in November 2023, we welcomed a SIAMS inspection. On both occasions, the behaviour of our students was described as ‘exemplary’. The SIAMS report notes that ‘harmonious relationships and courtesy are strong features in the life of the school’ and ‘the school values of courage, respect, honesty, dedication, equality and love inform expectations’ across the school community.

Despite this strong foundation of positive behaviour for learning, our staff were keen to revisit the school values and ensure that there was a consistency of expectation for learning across the school. We wanted to use the opportunity to define what behaviour we should expect in the classroom and at social times. Treating the school values as the bedrock of who we are, we quickly established that the very best learning environment is, without doubt, rooted in respectful relationships. With this in mind, we have developed a new visual aid that really defines, and describes, what behaviour we expect from all members of the school community.

Posters will be displayed around the school and staff will be actively using the language displayed to recognise and reward excellent behaviour. Praise and appreciation are motivating for us all and, as a staff, we are committed to ensuring that our brilliant, hardworking learners are noticed and celebrated.

  • English Schools' Football Success

    Published 26/02/24

Our U15 Girls Football team travelled down to Millfield School in Somerset for their quarter-final game of the English Schools Cup. Millfield school pride themselves on being one of the best sports schools in the country, therefore we knew we were in for a tough match! A 6 hour round trip but the girls were excited and nervous but couldn't wait to get going!  When we arrived we were amazed by their brilliant facilities and ground, even though it had rained all day the pitch was in perfect conditions.

The game started lively with Piggott controlling the game for the first 15 minutes, however as the first half went by, Millfield started to get a hold of the game. The whistle was blown for half-time and the deadlock was yet to be broke, 0-0. Another 40 minutes went by where both teams had their chances but the game still remained 0-0. Into extra time we went. Piggott dug deep, remained focused and played some brilliant football as they had done all game. With 1 minute of extra time to be played and penalties looming, it was Bea who played a perfect ball into the box for Blossom to smash into the bottom corner. 1-0.

Millfield threw everything at them in the last seconds of the game but the girls held on to secure themselves a place in the Semi-Finals of the English Schools National Cup. You can imagine the scenes at full time. An outstanding team performance. Just to put it into perspective, out of 388 schools, The Piggott School have made it into the last 4 and are just one game away from the Final, which they fully deserve to be in! They are history makers as no team in Piggott School History have ever made it this far. We are so proud of their achievements, it has been an incredible and dedicated journey which have worked so hard for.  Well done girls!

    German Exchange September 2023

On Wednesday 20th September, 21 students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 flew to Germany for a week to take part in the German Exchange, accompanied by Mrs Schgör, Mrs Rawlings, and Mr Hersent.  Our partner school is the Ville Gymnasium in Erftstadt (Wokingham’s twin town) near Cologne.  It was a busy week spent with the host families, some time in the partner school, day trips to Burg Eltz, Koblenz, Cologne cathedral and chocolate museum, Bonn and Königswinter, a boat trip along the Rhine, and our 6th formers did some work experience in a local primary school.  Our students made the most of the experience, enjoyed practising their German and were superb ambassadors for our school – we received many compliments on their behaviour and enthusiasm for getting involved.
